Avocado

The avocado is a well-known fruit to the US. It originally got its name from the Spanish explorers that couldn't pronounce the Aztec word for it. They called it an ahuacatl which means testicle because of its shape. It is shaped anywhere like an egg to being shaped like a pear. The avocado is neither a fruit nor a vegetable. The avocado is a member of the berry family.

Many years ago this berry was hard to sell because it was thought to induce a sexual prowess. Anyone that didn't want their reputation slandered would not buy it. Avocado sellers got together and had that changed by petitioning that the rumor was not true. Now the Avocado is widely bought and sold. Avocado dip and guacamole is made from avocados.

One of the coolest things about the avocado is that while it can't be harvested until it reaches full maturity it will not harden on the tree. Avocado trees is the perfect storage place due to that fact. The avocado can stay on the tree for months after it matures before it goes bad. The avocado has so many uses that it is one of the most popular berries on the planet.
